Mince , Apple and Onion Bhajis

Ingredients:
  • 225g (8oz) Lean beef mince
  • 1 Eating apple, grated
  • 1 Onion, thinly sliced
  • 15mlsp (1tbsp) Medium curry powder
  • 1 Egg
  • 25g (1oz) Plain flour
  • 5mlsp (1tsp) Ground cumin
  • Oil for frying
Method:
In a large bowl mix together the beef mince, apple, onion and curry powder. With clean hands, squeeze the mixture together to ensure all ingredients are combined well. Take spoonfuls of the mixture and roughly shape into small balls (makes about 8 -10).

Crack the egg on to a plate and lightly break up with a fork. On another plate mix together the flour and cumin.

Dip each ball in the egg mixture and then roll in the flour (this process is quite messy!).

Using a large pan, heat sufficient oil to fry the balls in about 5cm of oil. Heat the oil until it sizzles when a pinch of flour is added to the pan. Carefully fry the balls (4-5 at a time) for about 8 - 10 mins until crisp and dark golden and the mince is cooked through.
Serving Suggestions:
Place on kitchen towel to drain excess oil and serve hot (or cold) with poppadoms and chutneys.
